Karen Jeffers practices primarily in the areas of general corporate and business law, health and hospital law, marketing and advertising and employment law. With thirty years of experience working with a varied clientele, Karen has the ability to quickly understand a client’s business and help solve not just the legal issues at hand, but the entire business problem. She is a skilled negotiator and her experience facilitates her clients’ ability to achieve their objectives – whether closing a deal or working out the amicable departure of a senior executive.
Karen’s general corporate and business law practice is extremely varied, encompassing everything from mergers and acquisitions to individual contracts. She has significant experience in structuring and drafting affiliation and joint venture agreements, as well as complex, long-term service agreements. She serves as both legal counsel and a sounding board for businesses confronting a problem or weighing a new opportunity.
Karen’s health care experience spans a period during which much has changed in the industry. She has been involved in virtually all aspects of hospital operations from the legal perspective, including serving on ethics committees and guiding clients through self-reporting proceedings under the OIG’s voluntary disclosure protocol. Karen has assisted in drafting health care legislation on the state level and uses her extensive corporate and business law experience to assist health care clients with governance issues, joint ventures and corporate reorganizations. She also spends significant time on fraud and abuse analysis, medical staff issues, risk management advice and contract drafting and negotiation.
In the marketing and advertising field, Karen has supported clients through the major changes that have taken place in these industries during the past two decades. Her experience has allowed her to represent both agencies and advertisers in negotiating agency/client agreements that make sense and are fair. She finds practical solutions to problems that arise in the course of creating a campaign and frequently assists clients with all of the legal elements that are involved, from claim substantiation to drafting music and talent agreements.
In the employment area, Karen’s early years as a litigator and her background as a business lawyer bring a unique perspective to bear on clients’ issues. Whether the task is a group layoff, executive termination or wage and hour compliance, she has been successful in finding the appropriate path for the firm’s clients and providing timely and sound advice.
